Travel Tips, Be An Eco-Friendly Tourist
To travel green is incredibly important and the majority of tourists completely neglect to notice the carbon
footprint they’re leaving behind at each stop. There are ways on how you can lighten the effect of your carbon
footprint and how you can consequently ‘green-up’ your trip. To travel green is to travel responsibly.
If you travel green it means you’re making an effort to conserve and protect those places you love to visit.
You portray respect to the local cultures and you appreciate the plants, wildlife and other resources without
distressing any of the factors within the environment.
Here are a couple of tips to help you travel green and contribute towards the global uprising brought on by
the infamous Green Movement. To fully incorporate ‘green travel’ your planning starts beforehand, even prior to
leaving the house.
- Before leaving your home, make sure that all your appliances are unplugged and switched off
(especially your air conditioning system), your geyser is turned off and stopping any home deliveries like newspapers.
- By booking a flight online you eliminate the event of producing unnecessary carbon emission by driving.
- Use up all your products on the trip like shampoo and conditioner. Rather take your half full bottles with you on the trip than purchasing new ones.
- Take a water bottle with you at all times and avoid buying non-recyclable bottles along the way.
- Travel light and pack only what you’ll need – public transport will be made much easier and it leaves more space for your souvenirs
(which highly contributes to the economy of the local communities).
Green tourists are highly admired over the globe and here are some more green tips during your actual trip;
- Try to arrange some car-less days during your holiday. It’s not only beneficial to the local economy but also results in less carbon
emission by opting for public transport.
- In the event of renting a car, try to rent a hybrid if possible. If not rather choose the smallest vehicle that will be able to accommodate you.
- Embrace responsible sightseeing. Try not to disturb any of the environments you might come in contact with.
Remember this is the habitat of a series of creatures and by disturbing the peace you will probably set of a chain of destructive results.
- Converse with the locals and buy indigenous products.
- Never forget to recycle. If your hotel or guesthouse doesn’t provide and recycling systems take your bottles either to the nearest
recycling centre or take them home and sort them yourself.
By being a green tourist you are bound to have the time of your life whilst contributing to the greater cause. Think about how each action
will affect the environment and make a conscious decision by opting for a more environmentally friendly travel experience.
